The Itchy and Scratchy Show - Continued :-(
You may remember from our Week 16 post that Rach has been taking weekly progesterone shots to help Camille go to full term. Unfortunately, the doctor's believe that Rach has acquired a slight allergic reaction to the shots as is evident buy her incessant scratching. The high risk preggy doctor's believe that the allergic reaction may be due to the oil that the progesterone is mixed with, castor in this case (didn't Mom's in the 1800s use this as punishment for bad children?). The pharmacy has since changed the formulation of the shot and replaced the castor oil with sesame oil with the hopes that Rach's body has a better tolerance to it. Rach and I's non-medical opinion is that since sesame oil is a primary ingredient in Korean BBQ, which we both like, maybe it'll be ok? Hmm time will only tell ... unfortunately she's still scratching as we speak so it's not looking good so far. Hang in there preggy eggy cuz you only have ....
100 DAYS LEFT!
Good segue into our next topic:
Life in Fast Forward
Sometimes I wish that life was like a proverbial VCR with a remote - or DVD for all you young pups out there. Sort of like that movie Click with Adam Sandler (boy was that movie a stinker). I would super fast forward through all the awkward years (~10-14 years old), re-record some of my contentious adolescent days (but maybe pause for some of the "firsts", i.e. first kiss, first love, first _____ ), and slo-mo through the highlights of my college and adult years (except my bachelor party in TJ - we'll definitely FF that one).
Now I find myself wanting to fast forward again ... first to fast forward through the year of heartache we had to endure for coping with the loss of Elijah, but now, I absolutely want to fast forward x 30 to meet our little Camille. Seems as though God pressed the fast forward button on my life for me because we now stand 100 days before we expect to meet Camille! Whew - where'd that time go? On top of this, Rachel found yet more patches of white hair on me, (damn you grim reaper) so it's been truly an emotional week haha - *pause pause pause*.
As a preview of how things will go down 100 days from now, on Friday November 5th, Rachel will be approximately 36 weeks and amniocentesis will be performed to determine how developed Camille's lungs are. If all looks good, Rachel will get a C-section the very next day. If not, Camille will cook in the oven another week and the C-section will occur the following Friday, November 12 where Rachel will be considered "full-term" at 37 weeks. It is important that Rachel does not go into regular labor 1) because of her cerclage and 2) because of Rachel's previous classical C-section. Rachel had to have a classical C-section with Elijah (due to his small size) which precludes her for going much farther than 37 weeks as the scar tissue in a classical C-section may not hold.
We're still hoping and praying for the best, and 100 days from now I'll probably want to put life on slo-mo again to enjoy Camille's baby years (and then fast forward through her terrible two's). :0)
P.S. Here's one of those fancy 3D ultrasounds our ultrasound tech hooked us up with at our last visit. It's funny because Rach actually sleeps like Camille with her hands propped up near her face. Looks pretty cozy in there doesn't it? Also, it seems that she likes the taste of her pinky. Looks like she has Daddy's big head, but I'm hoping she'll grow into it ....
